THE QUILL & THE INKPOT

The ABCs of Writing

1–2 minutes

Here’s the deal.

I’m not a professional novelist in that I’ve not yet been paid for the novels I write. However, I also wouldn’t say I’m an amateur. Several years ago, I realized that if I wanted to make this introverted passion of mine go anywhere, I needed to commit to it. I decided to make a point of writing every single day. (More on this in my next post.) I’ve been writing consistently for about eight years now. I’ve also got a full-time job writing training curriculum for an eLearning company. Not the most exciting work, but it is nice to make a living doing something I’m good at: writing.

Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about myself, my strengths and weaknesses. I’ve learned a lot about writing from reading more books than I can count and from listening to other writers talk about their journeys. I figured I would try my hand at compiling some of these useful tips, tricks, and pieces of advice. For lack of a better organizing principle, I’ve decided to give you the ABCs of writing advice. First topic coming your way: Adding Up: A Daily Writing Habit.

Depending on how busy I get between my job, novel-writing, agent-querying, and adventuring in the great outdoors, I’m hoping to post once every few weeks.  Hope you enjoy the ride with me!
